Hello!

My name is Alun Machin.

Let me introduce myself...

As an advocate for human-centred design, my collaborative and empathetic approach guides businesses through the design process to create successful experiences.

My journey began at university when converting maps from analogue to digital sparked my passion for information technology and its relevance to all walks of life.

Over two decades, I’ve created award-winning experiences with the City of Sydney, eBay, NSW Department of Education, Aēsop, Coles and Mitsubishi. I helped transform Vicinity Centres' digital presence, redefining processes and creating a design system to deliver a consistent brand experience.

I led the UX design team at National Rugby League, contributing to the experience, building, and launch of one of Australia’s most significant digital transformation projects that revolutionised how fans experience the sport. During the pandemic, I helped design an app to facilitate daily coronavirus and mental health checkups for players and staff, which enabled the 2020 season resumption.

For the past 3.5 years, as the UX Design Lead, I was responsible for providing human-centred design leadership to support the strategic direction of The University of Melbourne’s digital transformation program, which aims to create better outcomes for its students and global audience.

I led my team in designing high-profile initiatives, including a globally-recognised Grade Conversion Eligibility Calculator and relaunching Pursuit, the University’s award-winning news and research website. We also worked on the conversational AI global search, redesigned high-traffic Study content pages and the Murmuk Djerring Indigenous Strategy publication.

My process always begins with a sketch…
